Beate Schüler is a curator, dramaturge and producer.

Since 2018 Beate Schüler works as a dramaturge for the festival >cresc...< - Biennale für aktuelle Musik 2020 - a festival created by Ensemble Modern and hr-Sinfonieorchester. In the moment she is producing, with LUCID DREAM ug, the project SONGLINES - a transcultural cartography of song. Since 2016 she works as a dramaturge for KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen, Hannover. Besides that she curates the contemporary music festival „Schönes Wochenende“ of Tonhalle Düsseldorf. With her production company „LUCID DREAM ug“ she produced and directed the sound and light creation DARKNESS1816 with set- and light designer Klaus Grünberg and soundartist Werner Cee. It was premiered in one of the biggest Baroque gardens of the world - the Gardens of Herrenhausen, Hannover.

With the Norwegian trumpet player and producer Nils Petter Molvaer, she produced a sound and light installation for a night forest “LUCID DREAM” at the Schumannfest Düsseldorf 2014 in Düsseldorf, Germany, the norwegian premiere followed at Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival 2015, and in 2017 they installed LUCID DREAM in Fredrikstad, Norway.

Between 2011 and 2016 she worked as a dramaturge for one of the leading international contemporary music ensembles, Ensemble MusikFabrik. She developed the “Harry Partch Project”, which began with the European premiere of “Delusion of the Fury” under the direction of Heiner Goebbels (Ruhrtriennale 2013) and which continued with the european premiere vehicle “Pitch 43_tuning the cosmos”. Together with the British animation artist and director Paul Barritt (Theatregroup “1927”), she developed the music theatre piece “The Krazy Kat Projekt” for Ensemble MusikFabrik, with world premieres of compositions by David Lang and Oscar Bettison. 

From 2004 to 2014, she served as head dramaturge at Schumannfest Düsseldorf. In the framework of “festival bonn hoeren 2014”, she managed the open air production “stadtsinfonie bonn”. In 2014, she also developed the WhatsApp performance “What Tongues” together with Lebanese artist and musician Raed Yassin for the Delfina Foundation in London. From 2011 until 2013 she was responsible for the sound art series “klangstadt bonn”. 

In 2010, she organized “Von fremden Ländern und Menschen”, an international song project, together with the Goethe Institut Munich and 7 further Goethe Institutes (Seoul, Taipeh, Talliin, Oslo, London, Buenos Aires, Lissabon) and affiliates around the world. 
From 2008 to 2012 she was a member of the team for artistic direction of the “Muziek Biennale Niederrhein”. For the Teo Otto Theatre Remscheid, she coordinated the artistic planning for their jubilee season 2004/05. From 1995 to 2010 she curated numerous productions in the areas of modern dance, world music, jazz, noveau cirque and experimental music for the festival „düsseldorf festival!“ and worked for several music theatre productions by composer and director Manos Tsangaris.

Beate is one of the founders of „Eine Schule für Bissau“, a school-project in Guinea Bissau, Africa. She is a passionate cook and does live-cooking on theatre stages.
